Abstract

The formulation of the problem in this study is how is the ability of class VIII A students of SMP Negeri 11 Buton in solving story problems in learning mathematics on number pattern material? This study aims to determine the ability of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 11 Buton in solving story problems in learning mathematics on number pattern material. This research is a qualitative research and the approach used is a descriptive approach that aims to describe the students' ability to solve story problems in learning mathematics on number pattern material in class VIII SMP Negeri 11 Buton, where the number of research subjects are all students of class VIII A SMP Negeri 11 Buton for the 2021/2022 school year. The instruments used are observation sheets, tests, and interview guidelines. Data collection techniques used in this study were the implementation of observations, tests, and interviews. Data analysis techniques used in this research are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions or verification. Based on the results of this study using tests and interviews, students' ability to understand story problems was categorized as high ability, students' ability to plan methods or strategies in solving story problems was categorized as high ability, students' ability to implement methods or strategies in solving story problems was categorized as medium ability, student ability In proving the correctness of the answers obtained are categorized as medium ability.
